EEN ONTWERP VOOR GEZOND GEDRAG
SUPPORTING CAREGIVERS IN ENCOURAGING THERAPY ADHERENCE, AND IN SO DOING IMPROVING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THERAPY IN PRACTICE.
Countless studies have shown that people find it difficult to take their medication correctly every time. This problem is especially urgent for therapies in which patients do not immediately feel better after taking their medication: around 60% of the patients do not adhere to the therapy. As a result, people often become ill again, or the often-expensive therapies are not effective. Care providers also often lack the resources or knowledge needed to promote therapy adherence.
A pharmaceutical company asked Ideate to develop a toolbox that caregivers can use to encourage more effective therapy adherence. In so doing, the company hoped to improve the effectiveness of its therapies in practice.
Ideate interviewed physicians and nurses about how they currently try to encourage therapy adherence. With the help of Gedragslenzen®, Ideate then facilitated a creative process together with various specialists and stakeholders. This resulted in the development of a toolkit that takes different aspects of behaviour into consideration, and that uses various intervention strategies.
By using the toolkit, specialist caregivers can now compile a behavioural intervention on their own. This solution takes into consideration the fact that caregivers often already have some ideas about which types of behavioural influencing is needed. The therapy adherence toolkit is well-attuned to the work processes currently used, and it gives caregivers a broader palette of options for encouraging therapy adherence.
